Janet Stephenson BSc (Hons) PhD

Janet has held Senior Medical Writer and Scientific Director positions with two established communications agencies and also worked for periods as a freelance medical writer. With over 8 years experience in medical writing and communications, Janet has worked extensively in many therapy areas, including haematology, nephrology, oncology, gastroenterology, cardiology, dermatology, cervical screening, inherited metabolic diseases, prenatal diagnosis, high throughput mutation detection, and gene therapy. Janet has a tried and tested ability to rapidly assimilate key clinical data. She combines excellent organisational and interpersonal skills with flexibility, enthusiasm and a range of clear, concise writing styles; from punchy news features to authoritative scientific reviews.

Following her degree in Biochemistry from the University of Leeds, Janet gained a PhD in Molecular Biology. After several years working in the field of inherited metabolic diseases, Janet became Research Fellow within the Department of Haematological Medicine, KCSMD, managing the Prenatal Diagnosis Unit, and developing pre-implantation diagnosis of sickle cell disease in IVF embryos. As Senior Research Fellow within the haemato-oncology section of the Department of Haematological Medicine, KCSMD, Janet planned, initiated and directed research work into leukaemia and pre-leukaemia.

Janet has also been a regular news contributor to The Lancet Oncology, a writer for Elsevier PDxMD (First Consult), as well as associate editor for the molecular biology, bioinformatics and genomics section of the Wayne State University-associated website, Neverscience.com.
