Andrew has an impressive academic background. Having qualified with an honours degree in Biology from the University of Nottingham, he went on to complete an MPhil in Biotechnology at Loughborough University, and in 1992 he was awarded a PhD in Genetics, once more back at the University of Nottingham.
Before joining the team, Andrew spent several years engaged in postdoctoral research developing genetic-based tests. The commercial potential of the work in which he was involved was realised through two patent applications and the creation of a biotechnology company. Having authored a number of important publications in his own right, Andrew subsequently moved into medical writing.
Andrew has over 5 years' experience working in medical communications agencies. His areas of expertise include: gastroenterology (inflammatory bowel disease); respiratory medicine (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease); cardiovascular disease; haematology (haemophilia, trauma); women's health; CNS (Alzheimer's disease; schizophrenia, chronic pain); diabetes (treatment with various agents); and public health (strategies to deal with HIV).
Andrew is experienced at developing the full range of medical-communications material including: manuscripts; review articles; abstracts; scientific posters; newsletters; meeting reports; speaker slides and notes; text for websites, CDs and exhibition panels; and scripts for educational videos. In addition, he has been involved extensively in symposium organisation.
