Catriona has been a Medical Writer since 1993, and has worked with pharmaceutical companies, medical communications companies and major research foundations. She has extensive experience in the preparation and quality checking of regulatory documents, including clinical trial reports, summary sections of the Common Technical Document, protocols, Investigator Brochures, safety narratives, and Periodic Safety Update Reports. In addition, Catriona has experience in writing and editing manuscripts for peer-review journals, review articles, and educational material (eg web-based training tools). Her work has covered many therapeutic areas, including oncology, respirology, neurology, urology, gastroenterology, cardiology, organ transplantation, dermatology, rheumatology, genetics, infectious diseases, immunology, and anaesthesia. Catriona completed the European Medical Writers Association’s (EMWA) Professional Development Programme Certificate (Multidisciplinary) in 2000. In addition to EMWA, she is also a member of the Institute of Clinical Research, the British Association of Cancer Research, and ERBI (Cambridge and East of England Biotechnology Industry Group). Through these and other organisations, Catriona maintains a strong training record in the disciplines of medical/regulatory writing, oncology, innovative medicines, Good Clinical Practice, and publication practices. Catriona’s scientific qualifications include a PhD from Imperial College, University of London, for her research into the cell biology of a protozoan parasite, and a BSc (Hons) in Pure Zoology from Reading University. Before and after gaining her doctorate, Catriona carried out research in the fields of cancer, cell biology and haematology at the Marie Curie Memorial Foundation Research Institute and the University of Glasgow. She also has four years of industry experience with Unilever in the areas of Information Science, Acquisition & Mergers and Competitor Intelligence.
